The Southern Nevada Art Museum is dedicated to welcoming audiences that reflect the rich diversity of Nevada. Volunteers play a vital role in this effort by helping to create an inclusive atmosphere where all visitors can engage with art and find inspiration. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and life experiences. No previous experience is necessary—training is provided for all volunteer roles.

Museum Department Volunteer
Volunteers assist visitors across the Southern Nevada Art Museum, including in the library, and help support programs and events. Training is provided—no prior experience is necessary.
What We’re Looking For
A warm and welcoming attitude, strong communication skills, an interest in art, enthusiasm for engaging with diverse audiences, and a commitment to positive visitor experiences.

Museum Department Programs and Assignments
Visitor Experience Volunteers
Act as a welcoming presence at The Southern Nevada Art Museum by greeting visitors, answering questions, and assisting with wayfinding. Volunteers are stationed at information desks or serve in mobile roles to support guests throughout the Museum. Volunteers in Carson Family Hall help welcome K–12 school groups. Basic computer and internet-search skills are needed.
Time Commitment:
- Weekday volunteers: one shift per week, year-round.
- Weekend/evening volunteers: one shift every other week, year-round.

Guided Tour Volunteer
Volunteers lead guided tours and gallery chats, helping make The Southern Nevada Art Museum’s collection and exhibitions accessible to students (grades K–12) and adults. We strive to ensure that our volunteer community reflects the diversity of Nevada, with a focus on inclusivity, equity, and access.
In addition to giving tours, volunteers benefit from an ongoing education program featuring talks by curators, conservators, educators, and other Museum experts.
What We’re Looking For
A passion for learning about art and art history, a comfort working with diverse audiences, and a desire to help create meaningful museum experiences. An art background is not necessary—comprehensive training is provided.

Museum Department Programs and Assignments
School Tours
Time Commitment (after training): Weekdays only. One school-year tour per week and two summer tours for camps or community groups.
First Views (Grades K–3):
Lead themed tours to build observation skills, highlight cultural connections, and inspire appreciation for the arts. Includes sketching in galleries.Grades 4–12:
Encourage student dialogue to create a fun, engaging learning experience around art.
Adult Tours
Time Commitment (after training): One tour every 2–3 weeks and at least four tours annually during holiday/vacation opt-in periods.
Highlights Tours & Gallery Chats:
Offer new visitors an introduction to the Museum and provide returning guests with engaging overviews or informal conversations in galleries.International Tours:
Lead Highlights or Collection Tours in one of ten languages: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish.Collection Tours:
Guide in-depth tours focusing on a specific art area within the Southern Nevada Art Museum. Volunteers must first serve in Highlights, International Highlights, or School Programs before applying for Collection Tours.Weekend Tours:
Lead Highlights, Collection, or International Tours on Friday evenings, Saturdays, or Sundays.
Training
Participate in a six-month training program with weekly sessions, both virtual and in-person. The program combines classroom learning and gallery practice, preparing you to lead tours and chats that connect audiences with the Southern Nevada Art Museum’s collection.
