Jeff Vermeeren is a Canadian contemporary artist celebrated for his innovative fusion of industrial process and fine art. Born and based in Calgary, Alberta, Vermeeren has developed a distinctive visual language he calls “Extreme Abstract,” in which he transforms metal surfaces through fire, freezing, chemical reaction, and pressure to create works of striking depth and luminosity.
Largely self-taught, Vermeeren’s background in design and fabrication informs his meticulous control over volatile materials. Working with aluminum, steel, and other metals, he applies layered pigments and resins, then subjects each piece to elemental forces—heat, combustion, and cold—that alter texture and tone in unpredictable ways. The resulting compositions radiate color and motion, inviting the viewer to engage with both the beauty and the raw physicality of transformation.
Vermeeren’s art has been exhibited internationally and is represented by major galleries including Park West Gallery. His works are held in private and corporate collections across North America, Europe, and Asia. By uniting artistry with alchemy, Jeff Vermeeren challenges the boundary between painting and sculpture, turning metal into a living surface that captures energy, light, and emotion.
